One of the most important parts of living a Two-Pillar Life is deciding what your pillars actually are. Without clarity, you’ll drift. With clarity, everything aligns. So in this post, I want to share what my pillars are—and how I define, measure, and protect them.
Right now, my focus is simple and powerful:
I chose these because they reflect two areas I care deeply about: my physical vitality and my professional excellence. Both require consistent work. Both demand focus. And both are tied to measurable outcomes.
Pillars work best when you give them a clear destination. Without a finish line, it’s too easy to wander or drift. Here's how I define mine:
These aren’t vague aspirations. They’re measurable and time-bound, which makes progress trackable and momentum sustainable.
The goal of a pillar isn’t to stay in build mode forever. It’s to reach a level where it can be maintained with less energy, freeing up time and focus for what’s next.
For example, once I hit my health goal, I’ll shift into maintenance. That could free up 1–2 hours a day that I currently spend on workouts and tracking metrics. That time can then be reallocated to a new pillar, whether it’s creativity, relationships, or a business project.
This is a trap I’ve fallen into many times. As I get closer to completing a pillar goal, I start thinking about the next one. And if I’m not careful, I’ll try to sneak it in before I finish what I’m currently working on.
That’s when I have to stop and remind myself: Finish the current pillar first. Stay the course. Trust the timeline. You only have so much bandwidth. Adding too much too soon spreads your energy thin—and everything suffers.
If you’re living the Two-Pillar Life or thinking about it, start by asking yourself:
Decide, commit, and don’t deviate. Your future self will thank you for the clarity.
