Are You Creative?

I’ve never considered myself a creative person by nature. My background is in IT, where logic, systems, and troubleshooting are the norm. But lately, I’ve felt a pull — a curiosity — to explore something outside that comfort zone.

I’ve been thinking about trying something creative for my next pillar. One idea that excites me is learning to edit: videos, podcasts, or content creation projects. It’s a skill that’s technical but also requires a creative eye, which makes it a perfect challenge for someone like me.

Is Being an IT Generalist Creative?

At first, I didn’t think so. But the more I reflect, the more I realize that problem-solving in IT is creative. It’s about seeing patterns, connecting dots, and building solutions. Maybe I’ve been more creative all along than I gave myself credit for.

The Bonus of a Side Gig

Besides the personal growth, learning a creative skill like editing has another benefit: it opens the door to a side gig. It’s exciting to think about not only stretching myself creatively but also generating some extra income on the side. That combination of challenge and reward makes this potential new pillar even more appealing.

Your Turn

If you’ve ever told yourself you’re "not creative," maybe it’s time to rethink that. Creativity takes many forms, and sometimes it just needs the right outlet to reveal itself. What’s something creative you’ve been curious to try?
